EuroReef pump way too noisy

I bought a EuroReef rs180 skimmer and the GX 4100 pump on it is so noisy I cant run it in my house. Here I spend almost $500 and cant even use it. I should have bought a skimmer which uses a good quality pump like an Eheim.
I have tried extending the air intake hose and it didnt do much.

I agree with redeye. You can build an air intake silencer, sorta like a car muffler. It you have additional vibration noise, you may need to use rubber suction cups under the pump or a mouse pad. Both the ER skimmers that I have are quite loud stock, but after playing with them for a while, i've gotten them to a manageable state.

I've also gotten a lot of mileage out of using sponges/foam underneath the skimmers and/or pumps. That, and an intake silencer can make a HUGE difference...
