Ya know, I was gonna build him a new setup once I got the shop all setup. This is gonna be nice to see when it is done. I did a stand in black lacquer for a flatback hex I had built about 10ys ago. I had 8 coats of black and 12 coats of clear. Gustavo saw it. It was beautiful! Curious to see how you are going to make the tank accesible with the canopy! Is it gonna open on top and front? How tall are you making the stand and canopy? When we got our 42" tall stand, Gus and Maribell liked the height for viewing purposes. This project has been a long time coming! Thanks for hooking him up!!!

the stand will be 40 inch high
the doors will be 4 feet wide from front

the canopy will be open from front and i will install fan brackets on the corner

the 2x4 structure is heavy as hill
i used 2x4 and 2x6 ( knowing you cant find a straight 2x4 at home depot anymore i was off by 1/8 of an inch but i can hide that
it will be flush.......

Sweet! You gonna skin it with mdf? I wrapped mine with mdf and used my router table to make some nice homemade mouldings. Then just sealed the inside of the stand with a while oil based paint so the moisture wouldnt make the wood swell and get behind the outside finish. Post some pics yo!

Unfortunately, you gonna have to yo! It's gonna be nice to not have to sit on the floor to look at your tank! What's next Mr Jones? I say 500g starfire!

man I see this stuff and I want to get back into woodworking! Three years ago, I got my freedom (the "D word") but in the process, I let all my floor power tools go, (fire sale on Ebay) and kept all the small hand tools, figuring I can replace the big iron easliy, but not all the little stuff.

If I ever build a new stand, i will make sure that the sides are removable. Soo much easier to move the sump and equipment in and out.
