thanks for the kind words.. what i do to keep CA/ALK levels up is,
i drip pickleing lime basically 24/7. i usually cut it back in the day and open it up at night to minimize the PH swing. that and some baking soda for ALK as needed. the limewater has been great especially on the wallet. for what i was paying for one set of B-ionic jugs i was able get approx 16 canisters of the lime and seeing as i have been on the first one for 2 months, about half full as of now. im set for quite awhile....lol
the lights must be a factor as well as in my other tank with MH lighting the coraline has never really done much. under the VHO's it has spread like wildfire with no sign of stopping. also the nice amount of atinic really bring out the color of the corals and the coraline. it cant be to bad the one sps i have (montipora digita i think) has been growing pretty fast and retaining its color so far. i had to move most of the shrooms into partial shade as being in full light caused them to not expand fully of show there true colors.
now if i can just get rid of the last patches of HA ill be set. im hopeing when i get the refugium plumbed back into the main system it will help out...

have you noticed the rate of your powerheads junking up compared to the other tank?

Nice tang BTW

the powerheads grow coraline all over the outside, i havent noticed any growing on the insides. the only place i have to clean it off is when it grows on the intake grates. i have taken them completly out for cleaning probably 3 times in the last year.

very nice.

Do you get those small pinhead sized feather dusters? I have a million of them in my tank.

Peppermint shrimp have been known to eat aiptasia. if you dont have any prized zoos in there, that may be a good avenue for you to explore.

yeah im thinking of giving them a try. will they eat large ones or only when there tiny?

I've had very limited success. The one in my display hasn't touched a single aiptaisa. The one in my sump has eaten a couple.

REEFWAVE,

A question about the pickling lime. Were you able to find it locally? I looked for it at Stater Bros without luck.

Thanks,
Brook

yeah i looked around town as well, costco, wal mart, smart and final with no luck. i ordered from mrs. wages website, shipping was dirt cheap. like $30 got me like two years supply. if you wanna give it a try your welcome to buy a few off me for cost, or trade for some frags or somthing.
im really interested to get some more expensive kalk and see if there is noticeable change.

Ask chap about pickling lime, I could swear he found it on base for next to nothing. like 1.50 for a 3lb bag, or something cheap like that.

I'm interested in trying it out on aiptasia.

I understand that the only difference between Kalk and pickling lime (besides price) is that Kalk is slightly more pure and a little more refined. But, looking at reef's tank, you couldn't tell he was using pickling lime.

take care of the aptasia asap. after last time i beat them i thought it was no biggie. i must have got soem alien strain cus these guys are tough and keep coming. i guess i am gonna have to try joes juice now. nothing else has worked and my peps always die within a day, as of late, for some weird reason.

REEFWAVE

yeah i have gone threw a few bottles of joes juice and they just keep multiplying, there are so many now i cant imagine being able to get them all out. i could easily count 100 just on the left side of the tank. i was spending an hour a day going through and joes juice'n some would go away most would be back the next day..
