I wish this site would go back to the way it was when moore was here :(
.....before teknoviking

im not saying he sucks just that i think it was alot better
before him and his changes.....

what i dont get is all the kool people have left r are leaving
such as kamilek hes been here for the ,longest time
and all of a sudden he stands up and abruptly says hes out for good :(
i have a feeling that tek had somthing ti do with this...

i noticed instead of tech letting us talk he simply closes the thread
that is actually the first time i have ever seen a thread closed
and ive been here for more than a year now !

also can u spell A_D_M_I_N A_B_U_S_E??

Technoviking

Hmm or perhaps it was closed because of his pornagraphic avatar?

PS You don't have to be an admin to close threads, there are 5 other mods here that can close threads ;).

who had the porno avatar?

if it was closed for that reason then why didnt u warn them first with a pm
im sure they would have listen

and whjy would that be the issue? im pretty sure the people here are very
mature and old enough to understand certain avatars

there was no reason for closing that thread

Are you kidding me? Kamil had a picture of a naked girl climbing aboard a motorcycle.

Members have made it clear that polite PM's don't warrant any results. Every single time I have done that I have gotten some kind of ******* response from them.

Dude you seriously had to be paying attention to what happened to understand.

PS If you read the posts carefully you can see who closed the thread.

kamil is the avatar king (for those who have been here a long time know this)
he comes up with some of the funiest avatars ever
( he has something with chimps for some reason)

she does not seen that naked
i saw it and said kool a hot chick with a very nice bike :D

I do NOT think "everything going on" is Technovikings fault and its a pathetic and shameless act to say so.

A wide variety of people on here have been pushing the limits of what's socially acceptable, respectful, polite, courteous, etc for some time now, and Techno was the first to finally take a stand against some of it. Good for him.

A VERY wide variety of people on here have VERY short fuses, and get riled up VERY easily over simple and unimportant issues. This has been getting worse and worse --and was so long before Techno arrived on the scene, so it's had nothing to do with him. I've been a member here for nearly two years, believe me: this started LONG before even I was arround.

A large number of contributing factors have come into play, or become more outspoken or publicly-aware, all at the same time: many people have become ruder, nearly EVERYONE has a shorter fuse, there were a number of glitches on and with the site, EVERYONE has become greedy-er and accustomed to dirt-cheap SDreef prices/customs, and a few other things --all about the time Techno stepped into the scene.

Very very little, if anything, is to be blamed on Technoviking. (and I'm not just saying this cause he's my best friend or anything, I've never even met him, and at the moment can't even remember his real name...)

Thanks Technoviking for HELPING this website stay functional.

Thanks Techoviking for HELPING this website to maintain some semblance of a civil and decent atmosphere.

Thanks Technoviking for HELPING despite the NUMEROUS prideful, arrogant, irritable, picky, complaining, whining, negative, cranky, arguing, dissatisfied, immature, selfish, confrontational, prick-ish, and otherwise NON_HELPFUL people on here.

(notice how I was able to write a mini-dissertation and didn't blame anyone in particular? I didn't call anyone any names? I didn't accuse anyone? I didn't complain and whine? I didn't drag any private matters through the streets? Now, why can't everyone do this? I really wasn't very hard!)

Hey Tech, Maybe you should create a spot for those that want to talk S#!t in a Special Forum. One that requires age verification allowing them to enter the Talk s#!t forum, keeping minors out. Just a suggestion :)

I agree, well said Chris! Don't just complain about things, go out and make this a better place and contribute to good threads. If you spend all your time worrying about the 2% that's wrong with the world, you'll miss out on the 98% of what's good with the world. Unhappy forum members: be the change you want to see.

Since this has nothing to do with sales or trades, I'm going to move this to the Site Suggestions Forum, since that is the subject matter. Oh wait, I'll probably get yelled at for that too, since I'll be "abusing my power" and trying to "keep the man down"

Seriously folks, just go make some useful reef related posts. It's amazing how quickly the drama goes away when people start actually focusing on, oh, I don't know, maybe reefing! Take this other crap to an AOL chatroom where it belongs....

Chris, I couldn't have said it better!

Before TechnoViking came on scene in his new system administrator role, this site was stagnant... there's been a number of nice-to-have and badly-needed improvements.
I haven't seen anything here that I would deem to be heavy-handed moderation. Anyone who thinks that the mods are overzealous should spend some time in other forums and see how easy-going it is here... RC being the predominant example. I used to use another forum (non-reef) that was so heavily policed that you couldn't even imply an expletive by using "#@!*&" or stuff like that in a post.... it would get you a stern warning from a mod.

Back in the '90s, I ran a multi-node bulletin board system (BBS). (Anyone remember Fidonet?) As the system operator, I was faced with many tough calls on when to close a thread, warn a user about conduct, ban a member, etc. Give the guys who have volunteered their time to be a mod a break... it's a thankless job in many ways.

Chris is da man, couldn't have put it better myself. Too many here look at this site from only their perspective as if it's not PUBLIC. If people acted here as they would in an office there would be far less issues. I have no idea what happened with Kamil and I am sad to see him go, but all this drama that's been dredged up today is just.....well......useless drama. I like the site, sometimes some of the members just suck. Time to phase out of here for a while again  :runaway:

I've been on for a short time and I have to say I have enjoyed this group. You all have been helpful mixed with a good amount of humor. It is refreshing to see the amount of giving and sharing. Of course we all want a buck or two, this helps to justify in our own minds the amount we paid on things that died, jumped or killed what we liked, and the gadget that would fix everything.
I do like the ability of the staff to calm people down. I think it is easy for people to act differently here then in public and we all need reminding. They are our moral check that stops us from making an a** of ourselves. With three kids I now notice our public is far to often foul mouth sailors, talking about topics that should remain in private.
The one thing that has bothered me is the possilbility that I might click on a porn pic on this site like I did once. This would have been a an unhappy time for me if the kids would have seen. Sex talks should come from parents not graphic shots of people far more advanced in their hobby.
Keep up the good work. That is my two cents.

"I think it is easy for people to act differently here then in public and we all need reminding."

That is precisely why I do not hide behind an alias. I have no problem with people who use one, everyone has there own reasons, but for me it helps me to keep what I say in check. There is no mistake who it is that you are talking to. It keeps me honest with myself. If I can't say it face to face, then I shouldn't say it at all.

I have been on the site for a few years now on and off. There are some people that actually "get it" and some that "don't." It's so simple, we have to allow others to improve and control this site. If you want to complain than join the crew helping this site and let them know your suggestions, instead of just complaining and calling them "Nerds."

If you have a problem and you don't have a solution, don't complain.

If you aren't willing to respect people in positions involving "site improvements and moderators" join them and help or go somewhere else.

If you can't keep things respectful, and you would rather call each other names and put people down, read a self help book, and then join another forum.

This is a great site with some great people. I have seen some extremely rude people on here, but the least compared to other forums. What we have here i s not the norm. We actually have a nice looking, and easy to use site. Not to mention a friendly environment, and a decent amount of people to share our ideas or questions with. What is there to really complain about.

I second the president Noms!

If you think this site sucks or isn't what you would have designed then respectfully leave a comment or take a hike.

People forget the manners and call it freedom of speach. But people who have no common sense can't grasp that concept.

BTW freedom of speech doesen't apply on privat boards. The owner/administrator can censor whatever they want.

manners or not, people are allowed to say whatever they want, as long as it is not slanderous, or a direct threat of violence.the fact that people have that right(even to the chagrin of others) makes this a great place to live. on a side note: There is also no set definition if what is considered to be "porn" in regards to the recent "drama" stirred up.the only guidline set is that a movie is more likely to be able to be called "porn". other than that, i imagine the avitar is considered art by the user. i find it funny Bruno, when it's not what the majority likes, it's considered "drama".this mob mentality is dangerous, and annoying.

as far as "private baords" (which this is not) they have plenty of first amendment watch groups set up to specifically target those who try to break the law. freedom of speech cannot be stopped at the door, no matter who the owner is. as long as it rests on American soil, the first amendment is guaranteed.

Look Maz, I like that everybody can state an opinion on here in SDreefs. I just has to be civil and some common sense has to be used to state it. We have minors on this board too, think of them and their parents too when you see naked lady's.
Maybe the concept of what is offensive or not is explained easier with this example:
Just imagine if what is posted on the boards here, would be said at work to your Boss or Customer, would this give you a promotion or would it bite you in the behind.

mazilla
01-02-2008, 08:53 AM
Bruno, you dont have to explain any of the reasoning behind your opinion. i completely understand where your coming from and you have a valid opinion, as does every person with a voice, a pen, or smoke signals if need be.

The fact of the matter is, just because it doesnt feel right to you, does not make it bad. This old world way of thinking has to go. there will always be access to images far worse than that of that avitar, who can determine what is considered offensive? the supreme court cant, but i guess they should just bring on the staff of sdreefs to clear that one up. stepping on the rights of others to satisfy the opinion that some child could see that non-offensive image is foolish. I do think of the "children" (if you can call a 13 year old a child!) i also cant help but think why there would be any children on this site in the first place, i know i couldnt afford a tank at 13. hell, i still cant afford my tank today. so again, the rights of the majority are being sacrificed for the minority, even if it were the other way around it would be wrong. nobodies rights should be infringed upon based on your or any others opinion.

We cannot get in the habit of censoring, closing posts, and even banning members over simple matters of dis-agreement in what is to be considered "polite" or "proper".

p.s. i dont like the avitar at all, i think it is a little raunchy for this site, but i respect his freedom of expression and because of this my hands are tied. i would rather suffer by looking at it, than not be allowed to.

where i came from, it's proper for me to physically harm those who offend or hurt me. in fact, anything less would result in the possability in making my situation worse. This was the truth in my life, as concrete as your belief in what is or is not appropriate to be viewed here, as concrete as the belief that jesus will come back to the christians. do i now have the power to instill my beliefs in every aspect of this board and further into your life? no, the reason is it is a violation of YOUR civil rights, as is censorship of my or any other members beliefs and opinions as long as they fall within the guidlines set within the Constitution.

if i could not speak my mind freely, as i do to my boss(i am the boss) and my customers they would not be so. life is more important than worrying about what the guy next to you thinks, i live for myself and my freedoms as a human being.

You want to get stupid with it Maz? Allow me...

Lets say you are free to say whatever you want here (which is not the case), and you go and use your first ammendment right to physically threaten another member of this board (). That is illegal. Can you figure out why? People who think that the first ammendment gives them free reign to say whatever they want are just plain ignorant. That ammendment only has affect when you do not infringe upon the rights of others. So if you really want to get technical, what you did awhile ago was illegal.

PS If you really want to test it, go ahead and say whatever you want, me or one of the other mods will ban you. You call your lawyer and tell him the story and see how long it is until he stops laughing :).

First point;

What many fail to understand is that there is NO 'freedom of speech' ANYWHERE on the internet, and very little in the 'real' world.

'Freedom of Speech' comes from the Constitution, and only deals with GOVERNMENT restriction of CERTAIN speech. There are no restrictions of speech in any private area.

Proof? Go to WalMart and start loudly talking about the enslavement of Chinese children and see how long you stay on their property. Do you allow guests in your living room to say ANYTHING to your wife/girlfriend? Of course not.

Well, you are standing in Moore's 'living room' right now.

To be blunt, only someone ignorant or purposefully deceptive uses 'freedom of speech' as an excuse for online behavour. Moore OWNS this site. As the owner he can reserve the right to refuse service to whom he wants, for whatever reason he wants. The written rules do not LIMIT what he can do, they are simply the BEGINNING of what he can do. He can remove you forever for using the wrong font if he so desires.

Another deception; 'I just want the rules applied equally to all' is the cry. Yet that also is not true in 'real' life. Some just insist on pushing the limits, those people HAVE to be watched more closely, because they have given up all benefit of the doubt. They cannot be trusted.

Have you never heard of 'probation'?

I have MUCH more, including a history lesson. I just need to gather my thoughts, and use a write program for easier editing.

Please wait Tech.
