So were getting a tank, he said it was 125 but after calculating it i think its 135. 72.5*23.5*18.5.

We definetely want SE MH but not sure which wattage we would need 175, 250??? and how many, anybody think its possible to get awy with just 2 bulbs or would we need 3??? any info would be great...

We had dual 175 watt on our 90 before we sold it in may but dont know about a 125-135.

Thank you!!

Ashley

you should have about 3 MH to have everything well lit....depend on what you want to do, but personally I will go for 250w MH....

Or you can go with two, but than you might want to figure out do you want well lit toward the center of tank w/ dimmer area on each side or at each end w/ dimmer area in middle.

why don't you do this than, get 2 Mh first...play around with it...than add the 3rd one if you guys decide to do so. You can play around with idea like two 250w on each end and one 175w in the middle or the other way around...instead of all three the same wattage. and maybe combination of different bulb (10k, 14k, 20K).

3 175w Iwasaki 15k with Lumenarc III reflectors would do that tank well.

Rule of thumb for MH lamps is one for every 24 inches of tank length. If you have a center brace be careful of placing a metal halide over it as the center brace can over heat and crack.
The higher the Kelvin temp on the lamps the bluer they will look. I don't recommend 20,000K lamps unless you are using a HQI ballast in which case the ballast will over drive the lamp and produce a sweet blue white color.
If you intend to keep mostly SPS and clams go with the 250watt lamps. If you are going to keep mostly softies, mushrooms and LPS the 175s saave the electric cost and go with the 175s.

yeah to be honest we will probably have NO sps for some reason they seem to boring for me we only had LPS and softies in the last 90...But hey i remember you had really cheap bulbs way back when, any cheap MH deals?? lol

Please e-mail me or PM me directly and I'll see what I can do for you. I've been asked not to post prices or items for sale on this board any more. One of the sponsors did not like my prices :)

I think you would be better with 3 bulbs.. You would get more coverage..

Are you measuring the inside dimensions of the tank or the outside. If you want to accurately measure the volume of water that the tank can hold then you need to measure the inside dims. If those dims above that you listed are the outside dims then your tank is more like a 120g.
