I bought a bagless bissell vacuum few years ago from Costco. Over the years it has lost its suction power. Just purchased another bagless (Kenmore progressive) last night(good online reviews).

But some reading on the Internet says all bagless loose suction over time (Including Dyson). Is that true ? Any vacuum experts here ?

Hmmm... MY bissell bagless is the same. My dad has an oreck that RULES! And dyson... IMO overpriced bulls* with a lot of plastic trim. But I've never used one, so who am I to judge? :p

Perhaps the gaskets in the bagless vacuums are to blame?

not sure about that but i do know that costco has a very very very good return policy. we had an air conditioner for a year or 2 it crapped out, we took it back with no receipt and they credited the $$ back to my moms card...did u try returning it?

I also order huge orders from costco every 2 weeks here at work about $1000 each time and the costco guy is so familiar with me and i was talking to him and he said someone on another floor had a microwave from them and after 2 years it crapped out and they got a full refund with no receipt.

idk but its worth a try in case you havent tried...

and idk if its just me but both my family and my bf's family it seems like we get a new vaccum once a month. we have tons and they always break! the ONLY kind i can say that has lasted and works great are shop vacs. kinda a pain with carpet but if you have patience or tile/wood your set! haha

PK - here is a good link for bagless vs bag. It talks about suction also.

I only have bagless and one of my vacuums is like 10 years old and it just went out on me. So I would say that I'm a fan of bagless. Arent most nowadays bagless??

I went through at least one vacuum a year for many years. Now I have a Dyson, bought over 5 years ago and works as good today as the day I bought it. I will never own another vacuum. The other company's Dyson copies are just copies, don't be fooled. :)

I don't like my new bagless vacuum and only got it because I couldn't find any more vacuums that use bags. My bagless vacuum has this expesive hepa filter that clogs constantly and is very expensive to replace. So you end up having to clean it every time you vacuum (that's what the owners manual recommended). So how is cleaning that hepa filter any easier than throwing away a vacuum bag and installing a new one? Arg. And yeah, I also feel like I go through vacuums too often. Maybe I'll try to oreck next time.

Went through 2 hoover bagless in 2 years. Now have a Dyson, never a problem. Before they got all fancy with vacuums I had a hoover for almost 10 years.

my next one will be a bag vacuum or a dyson.

The problem with the bagless is that the cleaning is worse than just replacing the bag (If you have a spare and know where it is).

Most bagless also have some sort of a filter wich will clog up and has to be cleaned out every other time and replaced once a year.

Dyson.... 2 1/2 years works as good as the day we bought it. Wouldn't buy anything else.

Thanks everyone for your advise. I ended up retuning the bagless Kenmore and purchased bagged Kenmore instead. It was rated #1 by Consumer Report (not that I always agree with them). At $250 ($350 Reg price) I think it will do. Would have purchased a Dyson but they start at $400. And customer reviews are mixed on them also.

And I thought picking the right skimmer was hard.

Roomba does not do multi-levels though.

Roomba does not do multi-levels though.

That's true, but you could place the roomba on the different levels when you go to work everyday. My roomba is always running because my friends want to see it go everytime they come over
