The tank? -30" X 30" X 24". Lots of light (900-watts MH), lots of flow (100+ X/ hr).

Another cool little coral, gets a purple growth edge under intense lighting.

Great looking corals! Is it the camera thats making the pictures look dark? Cause it definitely can't be the lighting..

Slightly older version of the tank.

I'm not impressed with the cost of the controllable 6000's at all. Great pumps but the $650 I would spend again.

The 6060's and 6080's are comparatively cheap. And impressive. Incredablily high flow rates for very little electric comsumption ( for all the pumps).

Very impressive and healthy sps! What type of lights are you running? -Mel

The lighting is (2) 250-watt 6K lamps and a single 400-watt 12K lamp.

I'd be very cautious about trying to use 6060 in a 55-gallon tank especially if you've got fine sand. The tank is very narrow and these pumps are quite powerful.

You're really moving a lot of water when using these pumps. It is a much softer flow but is still damaging and quite intense.

If I were to try it, I would have to accept the fact that the flow could very well prove unmanagable. I just don't know if it practical -and I wouldn't even consider unless I were growing mostly sps'.

The most relevent observation I've made about these pumps is that even when they are positioned as low as possible in the water column, they still create vortexs (whirlpools) directly above them and manage to suck air down from the surface and through them -spitting bubbles across the tank. They also do the same thing of detrius on the bottom of the tank.

hey charles, i was just wondering about the origin of the tort frag you gave me. Its really starting to color up to a nice blue and growing fast. Are these the torts that go for 75 dollars a frag? because it show looks like it.-mike

Not the same stock, but very siimilar. They were captive raised here in San Diego. The mother colonies are featured in the book, The Ultimate Reef Aquariums (?) -the one with all the pics and specs of people's tanks (cannot recall Tapio's last name).

chin_mosnter,

Hope you don't mind but I got a couple questions for you.
You say your not impressed with the tunze 6000's, why
is that? I was planning on running one 6010 with controller
and a 3/4 sea swirl from my return pump. Second question
is what lighting setup would you recomend for a 36X36X24
tank? I was thinking of 2 250W DE metal halides and 2 T5
actinincs. Do you think that would be sufficent for SPS?
Thanks in advance for you help. I would live to see your tank
in person.

The 6000's are very expensive for what they do, IMO. The pulsing feature is nice, but not $250 nice per pump (+ controller).

I'd rather have a pair of 6060's for the cost of each 6000. I like what they are and what they do, but justifying the price is just hard to do.

As far as lighting goes, you're right in there. Pretty much the build out I'd make for such a tank.

You will have some lower lit areas which can be worked out to your advantage, meaning it would be possible to avoid at at least some algae growth on the front panel be pushing back the fixtures and at the same time using the entire 2' X 2' spread of each fixture.

Thanks for youe quick response and great advice. I will
keep a pair of 6060's in mind.

The really, really purple nanna today.

I told you that it was a teaser pic.

Really close to the halides to get the old colors. Lower light gets you this.

Come on if you won't say I will -it's butt ugly right now. With great potential though.

Here really soon I'm going to break it up and move it back up into the trays to regain those previous colors.

And the upper one in red in the other "blue" tort. The blue circled one is a frag of my purple tort.

Gee, I think it's a lot more blue than the frickin brown ORA blue tort. I'm happy, cant you tell (NOT!!!).
