Does anyone know where they make keys for a mazda 6?
It has a chip in the key, they made one for us but it only opens the car's door, it doesn't start it.

Thanks

The new key probably needs to be programmed to be recognized by the car's computer and anti-theft electronics. Google "Mazda 6 key program" and you'll find procedures.

probably have to go to dealer, most cars you can program your own but you need 2 microchipped keys and a blank. So you might have to pay the money to get the second but then you should buy a blank or two to program yourself. or you can hide the one you have with the chip somewhere under the dash so the ignition computer will recognize the chip but you can start it with the regular key; i did that to a ford before.

Haha, Mazda factory, definately not there if it's in Canada.
I didn't really wanted to go to the dealer, I was thinking some place where they make keys.

RussM, the new key was made at one of those places where they make keys, I don't think it can be proggramed?

I can pay the money for the second microshipped key, just didn't wanna go to the dealer or anything, too much of a hassle.=/

Thanks for the help

I was able to program a third-party chipped key for a 2000 Ford, but not for a 2001 Honda. Can't hurt to give it a try...

Check your manual, it will tell you whether your able to program one yourself. But if you do end up going to a dealer call ahead all they need is your VIN to make the key so they can have it ready and waiting and all your need is a proof of ownership when you pick up.

dealeship only, they are barely starting to sell the machines to code keys to the public just recently, first time I saw one of those machines was at the SEMA convention in Las Vegas
