I wonder EXACTLY what you all do to "condition" your Scripps water to use in your aquarium. List all the additives and amounts you use.
Say I used 100 gallons of scripps water as a reference point. What else would you add to your water and how much would you add to make this 100 gallons perfect.

RODI water to bring down the salinity a little. I would estimate 5 gallons RODI to 100 gallons Scripps

I just add 1.5ml of Kents Liquid Calcium Reactor for every gallon of water to give it a boost. I believe there is a product called Araga-Milk or something that I also like to use.

what are you boosting it for? what do you think the Scripps water is lacking in?

I do not adujust salinity. For other stuff I use Sechem dry products and they have a great calculator online.

100g of water
For Alkalinity - to adjust scripps from 3.0 meq/L to 4.25 meg/L you will need 6.667 tsps of Reef builder. (http://www.seachem.com/products/product_pages/ReefBuilder.html)

For Calcium - to adjust scripps from 350ppm to 420ppm you will need 13.3 tsps of Reef Advantage Calcium (http://www.seachem.com/products/product_pages/ReefAdvCalcium.html).

You can also dose Magnesium. But I do not always do that.

Marde, for tank your size using two part liquid solutions will be very expensive. So I highly recommend using Seachem's dry products

Its a little low in Calcium, Alk, & Magnesium so I use KLCR to give it a boost

I add B-Ionic to bring it to 450ppm calcium and bump the alkalinity a bit. I add magnesium (Epsom salts) to bring mag up to 1400ppm. The salinity is fine for me.

As per the Fenner book, specific to Scripps pier water, put it in a dark place for a while, and then use it.

Hey, what do I know ???? This is the god of reef aquariums who is also in this corner of the world and he speaks directly to Scripps Pier water in one of his books.

thats good enough for me...

I mostly mix my own water, but I always keep about 60 gallons of scripps water just in case. I never add "fresh" scripps water to my tank. I let it sit a month or even two in a dark container. Before I want to use it I heat it and throw a power head in it for a day.

PK "best answer" to a question I have had EVER !!

I try to follow the advice of the more knowledgeable here and dose 2-part liquid B-Ionic and magnesium as suggested. I also have shrimp & xenia, so I add Iodine. I don't have a test for it, so I add 1/2 the recommended dose to be on the safe side. Acclimated shrimp in my tank have only died due to high temp / power failure, so I don't think it's hurting them, it might be helping. And it's very cheap because you dose so little.
