View Full Version : Koralia Groupbuy?

Aquabuys (http://www.aquabuys.com/page/aqb/CTGY/o1) has some good prices on Koralia powerheads and more importantly, they have them instock (except for the K3). I've been trying to work with the owner on a groupbuy deal so just looking for a headcount. Anyone interested?

Update: Just heard from the seller. We'd have to order A LOT to get a price break since they're already set at great prices. So the cost is what you see on the site. We will all split s/h charges evenly.

Update 2: The first three orders were completed but it doesn't look like Aquabuys is getting inventory in fast enough. Walter has the following discount codes through Drs Foster Smith if you'd like to order yourself:

Enter the following item codes in the search at top left.

Koralia 1: abr-29128
Koralia 2: abr-29129
Koralia 3: abr-29130
Koralia 4: abr-29131

They have them instock and if you enter the discount code word, "dodge", you recieve an additional 15% off so that should cover the s/h charges.

Great design, low power consumption, strong broad conical flow, magnet holder included and the best part: they're inexpensive! Arguably the best powerheads available in regards to the price/performance ratio.

I'm starting a custom tank and would like one Number 2.
But...

Do you think that's enough flow for a 34 gallon mixed reef (24 x 15 x 22)? The only other flow would be from the return of the Remora skimmer. I know it's 600 gph, but I've never actually seen one in operation.

Thanks.

Tough to say, you have to ask yourself the following questions: how many of each type of corals (mostly softies, lps, sps?) and what's your rockwork going to be like?

I love these powerheads. I've got four #4s on my tank, adding two more I have on order from this same vendor, and they're awesome. Definitely the best bang for the buck...especially at 12 watts of power! Best price out there from what I've seen, too. :)

You can't turn the flow "down" but since the end has a cross of plastic, the flow comes out in 4 directions, and it is mounted on a great balljoint, so you can rotate the whole PH and move the flow whereever
I have xenia RIGHT in front of my k3, waves around in the breeze, but does'nt get BLASTED, since I have it inbetween the flow areas

I love these things

go with a k4, it's the same size as a k3 and kicks more water.

GoTakuF1
07-14-2007, 10:14 AM
Here's a quick size comparison picture for reference Tunze 6025/Diet Coke (not highly recommended :p )/K4. The K2/3 are the same size. The K4 is slightly bigger but not much. There's a good reason why they made these so big though. High flow prop + small in/outlets = fish puree :D

Brad, running them on start/stop wavemakers isn't recommended by Hydor. Plus, they're kind of noisy on start up. The Seio controller works since it doesn't stop the pump completely. Hydor is releasing a specific Koralia controller by the end of the year according to repots.

Actually, between the 6025/6045 and the Koralias, I prefer the Koralias. They're both great pumps but I think Tunze dropped the ball on the Nanostreams a bit. It's nice to have competition, eh? :)

Redeye
07-14-2007, 04:01 PM
I've never used the stream, just like how compact it is, since I have a 29g and a 40g

don't know if they dropped the ball, or if hydor had a genius working for them

GoTakuF1
07-14-2007, 04:15 PM
Perhaps a bit of both. They're both new products so only time will tell. But so far, the Koralias surprisingly have less teething problems. In the end, the hobbyists benefit as there are good inexpensive prop pumps to use (don't mention Seios :D ).

Right now, I have a K1 in 1 corner of my 46, I was thinking of getting a K2 for the other corner. Does that sound like overkill for a 46?
If its overkill Ill get another K1 instead of the k2.

I think I'd want at least 3...one on each end and one in the middle of the back wall, if possible. That would give you some great flow, and hopefully avoid any dead spots. The flow is strong but very dispersed on the #4s as are the others, so it's not going to blow anything away, per se.

Unfortunately, these Koralias are either sold out (at great prices like Aquabuys) or are marked up (+$10 like Drs. Foster Smith). I placed an order on Tuesday that's going to be delivered next Tuesday. However, they only had enough pumps to fulfill my order and the first three orders on the list.
