View Full Version : Why Did You Choose Your Screen Name?

Techknowledgy
07-05-2007, 08:49 PM
Here is one to get us better aquainted. We all have a screen name, but we all have real names too. Some folks used theirs to generate their screen name on sdreefs.com. Often these are based on what is important to us.

Mine is Techknowledgy: The "Tech" is because I am heavily involved in computers, especially as they apply to learning, and the "knowledgy" is both a play on the word technology and the word knowledge.

What is the genesis of yours?

I have a long-standing aversion to using screen names, aliases, etc, so I always just use some permutation of my given name. There's quite a long story behind it... but I won't bore y'all with it!;)

Even though I refuse to use one, I have no problem with others using aliases, BTW. In fact, I like seeing creative or humorous ones.

Mine came from a low key RC car parts company that I have been half heartedly trying to get going. Kinda hard to do when the machine is tied up making the house payment. BigAirProducts.com

Oh good grief!

Mine comes from what I do professionally - semiconductor electronics - the "loose electron" concept is whats going on in a transistor.

Also a double inuendo there in the term "loose" read into it what you wish.

I seem to get into these - I named my company Effective Electrons (double meaning there - do things effectively, and it is also a term from semiconductor physics) Also, named the boat "Chips 'n Salsa" which means two things - the second one is geek speak for "hardware and software". You get the idea.

ChrisMaree=part of my first name and my middle name. However, I HATE to be called "Chris", but since I've used this s/n for 10+ years, the s/n has stuck.

Chana in Indian means "Garbanzo bean". But I am sure the Indian you are talking about is "Feather Indian" not the "Dot Indian" like me (thus the garbanzo bean). :D

We just finished Bldg. #8 at Microsoft, and John Carmack as well as Romero were there and we had an all night session of DOOM with a bunch of other MS guys. DOOM was the first, first person shooter that was Multi-player at that time. We drank beer and ate pizza so the mouse and keyboards were greasy, the beer was kicking in and I sucked at the game. This part I swear is true, I fragged Carmack and he asked who was it that got him? Well I said, you just got killed by a Lo0seR, so the rest of the night I was "Lo0seR".
