Should I take out all Filter Media in my Fluval on my 40 Gallon? I have a PolyFilter in there with a bag of Carbon and 2 sponges. with 2 bags of seeded sand.

reef or fowlr tank? If you are running a reef the general consensus on sponges tends towards "out"

the polyfilter is okay but it should be rinsed weekly or so.
I gave my fluval to my mom because it was just too difficult to clean frequently. They are great for fish only tanks though. (I had mine on my 45g bow FW tank).

I have a fluval 404 on my 16g, all filled with ceramic disks. I read somewhere that sponges are nitrate traps unless you clean them on regular bases. And on a canister filter it’s not an easy task.
