Well, I set up my tank on 1-27-2007 and now about 3.5 months later I added a few stuffs to my tank as well as seeing some new growth.

Original link to earlier tank set up:

I just add this new piece yesterday.
It is called Ocean Blue Polyp Stylopora. I love the bright color.

Here is my most expensive piece. If I frag it out and sell it like they do on the internet, it would probably cost about $1000. Its current size now is about 5.5 in. by 4 in.

--------------------------------------------------------

Since the beginning, I ran a skimmer for only about 3 days (the big Euro-Reef 8-2) but because of the noise level, I look it out and have never run a skimmer starting February 1, 2007. I also don't have a calcium reactor or a chiller.

I do dose my tank with B-Ionic and SeaChem Reef Complete.

--------------------------------------------------------

My tank is starting to get crowded. I wish I have a bigger tank. So many more corals to buy still... :D

Thanks.

Actually, I have not consciously do any water changes. I usually just add ro/di water because of evaporation.

I only put back some water when I take water out of my sump to do the dippings of newly acquired corals. For instance, if I scoop out 1/2 a gallon of water from the sump to do the dipping, then I mix about 1/2 gallon of salt water and put it back into the sump.

I now wish I have a bigger tank. Yesterday I had to stand in front of my tank for about 15 minutes to figure out where to put another frag in an area of high lighting.

Very nice coral collection for only 4 months.

Where did you get most of them?

1/2 of them is from here in SD; 1/4 of them is from the internet (reefermadness & drmaccorals); and 1/4 of them .(the exensive and nicer stuffs like sunset monti, rainbow monti, blue polyps stylo)........ from Orange County such as Tong's and OC Aquatics .

Those 3 that I bought 2 days ago from you guys (OG) are doing good and eating like pigs. That is a good sign. :D

Now I need some type of wrasse to eat the pods. I don't have any predator for the pods and so I have a lot of pods in my tank.

By the way seahorse_man...my tank is still missing the neon green candy cane....Ha ha ha :D

Fantastic tank Phong! This really is one of the simplest, quietest and functional tanks to come along this board. Your understanding of husbandry goes a long way in making this tank successful. Reminds me of the old adage, "Less technology, more biology." Brilliant work!

NICE... I love the color distribution, not too much of one thing in one place. Very balanced and extremely beautiful.

Phong,

Thanks guys.

Actually, I am waiting to get a small 4-line wrasse. They are pretty hard to come by.

Just recently I was bitten by a "yuma" bug. I have bought a few yumas (flaming deep red, orange, and rainbow yumas).

what type of lighting? what bulb?

Two 250 watts DE Phoenix 14K in the ReefOptix 3 pendants. I also supplement them with two 48" HO T5's (one daylight bulb and one actinic).

Crazy looking tank! And you think that you only just got started. :) I remember when you were still getting your tank ready. :)

I've gone back to keeping it simple also. I have a HOB filter, no skimmer and no chiller. Just a fan to help keep the heat down.

Yup, it is o.k. to keep it simple (relatively speaking). It works. Even having a tank with 84.7 degrees is o.k. :D

I love to hear and see people's tank with simple set up.

Two roads diverged in the reef world, and we--
We took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference

Looks Awesome, I'm loving that ric rock in the bottom left of the last pic.
You guys are definitely keeping my hopes up in maintaining my simple setup. No fuge, no sump, no chiller, no dosing (yet;), just a Remora on a 42 hex. :)

I bought that whole ricordia rock as a whole. It has 40+ rics on it. I love the orange/red rics on there since the color is very deep and yet bright. It is unlike other orange rics. The other rics that you see on that rock are light orange/purple rics that are not as colorful.

The whole rock is the size of a football and it is heavy. And yes, it is an expensive rock.
