Can't wait to see corals in it. That blue tang may eventually out grow that tank though since it's a tall and not a long.

Wow, awesome looking tank, I love that size/shape. What is that, close to 3ftx2ftx2ft?

You'll definitely want more LR... that's going to be really nice once it's stocked.

Those educators...do they only work with a specific (or within a specific range) GPH? Do they have any maximum, or minimum number of GPH to work correctly?

Yup its 36x24x24!

I have about another 120lbs of rock in my 60g that are coming in here, just have to build the new canopy for my 400w MH (building it on Friday) so I can start transfering some LS, then LR, then coral, then finally fish.

Is there a better order?

Bought it here on SDREEFS from MGCHUA. The glass is beveled and polished on the edges, and it's Euro-Braced, and the black is painted black with some paint that doesn't chip off, no scratches either :)

Shame he never set it up as a Reef  he had a FOWLR.

I designed those, they work pretty good with low pressure pumps. I am only putting ~400gph per outlet but the eductors are displacing about 1000gph+ each. They will work best with high pressure pumps (up to 5x increase in flow), but will get results with something as small as a Mag 9 (2x increase at least).

I have tried putting them on a MJ 1200 and it at least doubled the amount of water circulation in a 20L, it gave me a slow flow kinda like from a Seio M620.

I made a DIY thread on the eductors here:

Thanks. I will keep you guys posted with any advances on the tank upgrade.

Currently battling ick on my two tangs with some organic meds, its supposed to be reef safe. Anyways there is no coral or inverts and very little LR so not very worried. I will just do a water change & run lots of carbon for a week before I add any coral.

Should I stop using my skimmer during med time? I think it might be removing the meds

Is 400w MH too much for this tank?

I thought I would need more because 400w 10,000k over a 90g that is 24" deep is only about 4w/g, I was gonna add 4x 39w T5HO Actinics as well, but someone else on the board was telling me that a 400w MH is way too much for my tank! I've used 400w MH before but not for a very long time so I never really saw the benefits or problems that could come from it, my coral seemed happy for the 2 weeks they were under MH lights ??

Not sure what to do, I already have the 400w MH ballast and reflector.

Any feedback would be appreciated?

I have a Single 400W MH SE on a Lumenarc Reflector and I can grop SPS on the bottom of the tank (24" tall)

Would you do 400w again if you had the option or would you go with 250w or 175w?

Do you run a chiller?

Thanks buddy.

250 would be good, hell to nah about 175, it's not enough, especially if you plan to keep sps and keep their color.

I'm having a little bit of a Micro-bubble problem...

I think I'm pushing too much water through my sump ~1000gph

You guy think it would help to make my bubble trap baffles 1.5 taller? I have some of that plastic guards that comes with the glass canopies, the ones that attach to the edge of the glass. I was also thinking about a sponge but would rather avoid any type of sponges other than my filter sock.

Thanks for all the advise.

Looks good Ivan. Is that a candy cane in the lower left and is it blue? Very cool. And how does that sun coral do in the top right? I thought they were supposed to be in a cave :)

Ok, so I went from a 4x T5HO to a 4x T5HO + 400w 10k MH.

I thought my corals would bleach if I left the light on for an extended period of time but after the first 3hrs of full on MH + T5HO my corals had not reacted badly, instead they were fully extended and my RBTA was bigger than ever. Should I take it as a hint that they like the MH or should I continue the short lenght photo periods (3hr on - 2hr off - 3hr on)?

ps. the bleached birds nest in the pics bleached after I moved the tank not from the light, not sure why it bleached since I use scripps and replaced the lost water with scripps as well :(

I have _no_ personal experience with MH lighting. But having said that, why rush? Remember only bad things happen quickly in a reef ;) If they aren't reacting badly, count your blessings, and continue on acclimation would be my suggestion. You have much more to lose than to gain.

Switched to 250w MH, 400w was overkill w/my T5 setup, it would have been ok if it was the 400w by itself.
