I have a 250w PFO ballast connected to a mogul socket. I was running an XM10k bulb, but it stopped firing. I figured the bulb just randomly died, so I switched to a CoralVue 20K. After a week or more, the 20k stopped firing too. I unscrewed it, and screwed it back in and it started up. Now, the 20k stopped firing again, and I'm stuck with no working bulbs. Any ideas?

Also, perhaps if someone has a 250w SE ballast, I could try these bulbs out to see if they're good anymore. I'm suspecting either my ballast is screwing up my bulbs, or it's just getting too hot, and refusing to fire.

If your bulb fired after un-screwing and re-seating it I would say the problem seems to be with your socket not your ballast.

I agree.

Yeah, that's what I figured after re-seating it the first time. But now, I can re-seat, switch bulbs, etc, and nothing fires. I will take a flashlight to the socket though, see if I notice anything.
