I had this set up as an african cichlid tank I got rid of the last of 32 fishies. And now it is full of 80 gallons of Scripps finest. I just got the thing together. I dont even have any filtration yet just a couple of power heads and a 6 x t-5 50/50. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c74/levihoagland/006.jpgto be contiude...

Keep the lights off and get a skimmer, add LR in a few weeks and cycle for 2-3 months before you add any livestock.

is there a skimmer that I can drop inside like behind some rock. The tank is in the living room and I want to try to keep it against the wall

off to a nice start. There are hang-on-back skimmers such as the BakPaks, Urchins, and Remoras... Are you not going to use a sump?

yes. I am.

you will need an overflow. they can get pretty loud but they work.

I think Justin (SDFishman) is selling one now.

Justin's got one for $35, which is way cheap.

Actually very simple to run a sump. Many, many benefits from a sump.

Could you take a pic of your light fixture with the lights on? Also list the brand and type of each bulb?

Speaking of rock... whach here on the boards for LR for cheap.

:D I really like chromis. They have a nice color. I am going to get some when I get my bigger tank up. 2.00 + a pound is good for live rock. Dont go to the LFS, theysually high. My first tank I did that and spend 5-6 bucks a pound.

thanks I am doing the scripps thing I have 2 55g drumbs and just run them in the dark with power heads. I am doing the 20% more like 15ish % weekly water changes and am looking for more lr to throw in. I have a birthday coming up in a week hopefully I'll have a little extra cash to throw down on a bunch.

...And I am head over heels in love with blue-green chromis.

Quite the improvement from the last pic. You need to get a starter coral in that thing.

anemone = bad idea.

you shouldnt add an anemone until the tank has matured for like 6 months.

i learned the hard way...

but good luck, its beautiful.

Your smart to go with the chromis they make alot of poop and that helps to get some algae going. The touble is once your tank is cycled you cant catch those guys very easily. I think that the anemone will be ok. just feed it. nice tank.

I agree on the nem, sorry.
Rest is looking cool, nice up on the rock.
If you ever ran copper as a fresh I'd throw a bit of carbon for sure.
Coralife makes a good HO skimmer on a budget, deltec would be best HO, but $
I ran sumpless for years successfully, but yeah, more options, less EQ vis.
I envy everyone who gets to start out w/ the net and these cool sites, big plus.
Good luck, and start making $$$

Wow - what a difference from your first pics! Your tank looks good. It would be better heatwise and for the ballast if you moved it into the stand. Hopefully you can get enough cooling with the fans but be sure to watch the temperature. If you forget and leave those lights on for 4 days......
