OKee guys, whos got time to help my friend with a SW set up...He just got a free tank that was an established SW set up, but he drained most of the water and let is sit out for 2 weeks...some survivors were little hermit crabs that look like spiders haha...anyways...we have a hang on filter and lots of sand...He needs tips on this set up. Please PLEASE...all tips are welcome...this 29g is going to become a super star?

Is your friend willing to invest a thousand dollars in his tank?

He will get physically assaulted if he mistreats any animal. There are plenty of us who go to UCSD. ;)

If he wants a salt water tank with that kind of mind set he should shoot for an aiptasia tank.

You don't need strong lights for a saltwater set up, unless it's a reef set up. He can go, fish only, it would be alot cheaper, but still, not cheap.:D

he's an idiot if he thinks he can grow anything reef with petsmart-power lighting, can barely grow freshwater algae with that low an output.

And I'm pretty sure anyone that didnt do any homework will end up buying some large (or will become large) SW fish, with that crappy filter, and let it slowy get eaten by ick or some other parisite.

Worse, he will stick CORAL & FISH in there and it will die and pollute the water and kill everything and then he will buy more fish and will let evaporation lower the water level to the point where the fish are breathing salt and then he will add more saltwater and kill everything.

he should just grow hair algae and brown algae with some nice brown and white aiptasia and majanos... hehe i think itd look pretty good with some copepods running around... :P
