It took a while but I finally finished what I started out on back in September. The stand and canopy are made from Lacewood (outer wood) and Purple Heart (all the doors) All the doors open, even the top lifts up for changing the lights. I made it at my friends custom cabinet shop, (he made it, I helped) it took us about 30 hours labor all together, my buddy sure knows how to build cabinets!

I am hoping that when all the coraline comes in it will help it look even better. What do you think????

it's so nice it draws my attention to the stand and canopy instead of what's in the tank.

One of the nicest stand/canopy combos I've seen. Canopy is perfect for metal halides from what I see. Oh, the tank looks good, too. LOL

wow that is an extraordinary tank setup! I wish more companies made equipment that looks decent, most stuff looks the same as it did 20 years ago.
I think you will have to start throwing your friend some business from SDReefs....me first!

**edit*** what size tank is that? what do you have for a sump?

Ok, I'll talk about the tank. I love the two little flame shrimp hanging out togethger and your anemone is the bomb. Post some specs, size, lighting, sump setup etc.

You should think about a spring hinge or locking hinge for that front opening, check out rockler woodworking. they have a store on claremont mesa blvd.

Thank you for the nice words. Yeah, my friend does very good work but to be honest he is not cheap. That stand/canopy combo will go for around 3 g's! The lacewood and purple heart can be purchased at TH + H or Frost Hardwood (no depot or lowes!) and runs in the neighborhood of around $10 a board foot. The whole setup was just less than a 120 board foot so just the wood was around $1200.00, hence the expensive price to get one made. The thing is, you can pick any type wood you want, design your own style etc etc. he can do anything you want. He could even do one curved for a bow style tank!

thanks again.

wow, insanely nice stand and canopy. Looks worth the extra $$$.

tank is gorgeous also. I can see the current by the corals blowing around - love it. Very nice selection of livestock.

pblocal, you did good! My brother builds custom tanks and canopys out of exotic woods in Tennessee. I've helped him with several, and can appreciate how much time and work you probably put into it (as well as money)

I always wondered if someone local built exotic stands, etc... in this high dollar economy (San Diego) I'm sure there will always be buyers.

Great tank and fish/corals!

Camera is an Olympus E-330.

Tank is 180 gallon (see signature)

Sump is basic 40 gallon acrylic with external skimmer and submersible return pump

wavemaker is good but the power heads are the seio 1500. when it cycles through the heads each head makes noise on start up so I am switching the wavemaker out for one specifically designed by Seio. Harold from Frag City hooked me up with that stuff, after I install the new Seoi "wavemaker" I hope the noises go away.
