I too deal with "notables" on a regular basis. A lot of them are a$$es but you do get the occasional surprise nice down to earth guy.

How else do you think I can afford this stinkin' expensive hobby?!

I actually am a partner in a Production Management company and we deal with corporate events, conventions, trade shows, concerts, etc. The job has taken me to Berlin, Beijing, New Dehli (this year), Toronto, Cancun, Los Cabos, The Bahamas, Tokyo, Rome, and all over the good Ole USA.

What can I say...It's a living.

dunno bout most of you, but to me, pro boxers are the cream of the crop. I've met some of the best pro boxers today. from Julio Cesar Chavez, Sugar Ray Leonard, Iron Mike Tyson, Jeff Lacy, almost got killed by James Toney, and many many more, but my favorite boxer is my son.

talk about down to earth, most boxers are good average people like you and me.

I have worked with way too many to start dropping lots of names. But I do have two of my favorites:

I sat and talked with George Burns for about an hour while we were waiting for a rehearsal to start.

I have spoken to the last five Presidents while dealing with their microphones.

Like I said...It's a job.

I think it's funny how caught up people get with famous types ... and talking with George Burns for an hour would be f'n priceless. I'm not so sure about the last 5 presidents though.

And boxers the cream of the crop? Someone's a little partial here ... I'd like to meet Sweet Pea - - or Marvelous Marvin . . . and then several older & deceased boxers ---- kind of met Ali in Denver but that had to have been the weirdest exchange ever. He's so far gone!

Snapped a photo of David Robinson in the SD airport once & told him that no one would believe me unless I took it ... he just laughed & asked if I was sure I didn't want to be in it with him. Nice guy.

Was in Vancouver, BC at our hotel bar ... saw this really pretty girl sitting next to me and managed to use that to tell my wife how pretty she, in fact, was ... then we start chatting with this pretty girl - - who turned out to be Selma Blair - - we talked about being writers & then she says, "well, I'm also an actress" to which I condescendingly say, "isn't everyone in L.A.?"

She split after people recognized her but was way cool.

Almost smoked a pinner with David Lee Roth but I was afraid of the smelly, stinky meck he was frantically smoking. DLR looked beat down - but now that Van Halen is going to tour again - - he'll be all happy again.

Hung out with Billy Gibbons - but he was really weird ... Zeke Moreno's parents come to the VFW Post I'm a life member of, they're super nice - and I guess Zeke comes in every so often ...

I'd want to meet ______________. I really wanted to meet Hunter S. Thompson but he blew his head off. I thought it would be cool to talk about 50s rock with Jerry Garcia but he drugged himself to death.

The funny thing is that my friends are in the rock & roll industry and I end up hanging out with people that I don't even know who they are ... and then my friend tells me who they are & I get all weirded out because usually I said something totally lame or was a complete ass. Then again, my friends usually complain of people who go goo-goo gaa-gaa over these rock legends & like that I can just hang out and be "normal."

Ha - I'm far from normal. For crissakes, I have a freakin' reef in my living room!!

almost got killed by James Toney

i vaguely remember meeting you at scripps when we picked up our refractometers a while back. then after seeing your picture with terry norris in another thread, i remembered you. i'm no expert in boxing, but i would bet you're not in the same weight class as james toney. so, how did "lights out" almost kill you? or was it in the ring?

"Politics aside, who'd you like the best?"

At the extreme risk of diving into the cesspool of politics as we know it, I will answer that question this way:

I was most impressed speaking with Bill Clinton. However, that had absolutely nothing to do with politics. We were sharing wise cracks about his Secret Service detail. I didn't vote for him and wasn't at all impressed by the job he did in office. He does have a personality that is very dynamic. He seems very kind when he is away from the wicked witch of the East. (Hillary)

And to quell the bashing now...Yes I am a registered Republican, and No I am not at all pleased with our current President.

Oh, God...Here it comes!

hahaha, it was at the Julio Diaz vs Courtney Burton fight at the Sycuan Casino. he was two rows behind me and he was cheering for Burton, I was cheering for Diaz. the crowd was pro Diaz and Toney was not happy and quite loud and upset about it. well when Diaz KO'd Burton I turned around and flipped Toney the bird, well lets see he did not smile back. he tried to rush me, but was held back by some of his people. I almost hit the lotto !!! I have a copy of the fight on tape, and you can vaguely see me in the background when I flip off Toney.

but to begin with, before all that, I did'nt like Toney anyway, I didn't like the way he disrespected Evander Holyfield.
