Tank Cost

Hey guys,

My roommates are trying to tell me that my 90g fishtank is costing like $40 a month to run. I know this can not be correct since we have a hottub they run CONSTANTLY w/o ever shutting off.
My tank is running an ASM G2 and a rio 2100 return and a rio 600 powerhead all being run. For lighting I have 5 LO t5 @ 28w ea. This is all I have running on the tank.
As other local San Diegans, can you guys help me estimate what the monthly bill on my tank should be?

Invest ($20) in a kill-o-watt meter. It will tell you how much power you are consuming in a number of ways. I am using about 500 watts per hour when everything is on (except heater). I believe my 65g costs an additional $50/month on our elec. bill.

My 55G tall 1/5 HP chiller, 250W HQI, Mag 9.5,won 250 or 350W heater, in the summer $22.. Maybe I was getting lucky..

Justin,you just getting lucky to run that tank for only $22 more in the summer
My 55T use Mag 7 Sedra 5000 2 301 powerhead and 265W of light run me almost $40 a month

I think you want to look at your electrical bill too to see what SDGE are actually charging you per KW hour. I thought they charged more based on how much you use. Regardless, I'm sure the hot tub ain't cheap either!
