How long have you had them? Have you seen any growth? I've 1 only picked up 1 japancan about 2-2 and half years ago.. I still have the same 2 polyps I started with, an I feed it just like my other lords..which grow super fast.

I use a standard Olympus digital camera. They have a built in Macro setting.

I have had some of them for about a month now. 3 of the morphs immediately began to reproduce. Some of the others are still aclimating. I am feeding them 2-3x per week. All of my morphs are aquacultured 2nd & 3rd generation so they are used to captivity. I was told to grow them under PCs & to color them up under a 250 20k hallide. Right now they are all under the Hallide, just farther away from the center.

Awesome acans!

May I ask hoe much the white rim one cost you? And did you get those from Chris (mane)

the one right above the bright Orange & Yellow does. It is difficult to see right now. The pink ring only seems to come out if it has been blasted with light for a while. The 1st green one in that group has a deep purple ring.

Japenese Acans are a true testament to the blue spectrum of light. It really makes their pigments come out! Even when you look at a polyp under just natural sunlight, if it has been raised under a 20k bulb, the colors are so intense! If it was just grown under 10k the colors seem to shift to the more common Indonesian red & green.

da6d2003: how much growth have you seen? it looks like you have a lot of babies!

No, I don't think so. The willow ones I've seen are dark purple, VERY thin long lengths of undivided branches coming off the main stalk (usually falling apart in the LFS tank  )

I think mine's just called purple tree gorgonian.

Thanks, BTW. :)

No they are pretty fine. This photo was taken with a fish getting in the way. He's alway getting in the photo and messing with the coral I'm trying to shoot. I'll get better ones with it extended.

Minne seem to all have very short & fat feeders. Might not be relevant to ID though. Someone said that Indonesian Acans seem to bleach out under strong light. That might be circumstantial? These are quite happy 12 inches away from my 250 HQI

Bleach on if shocked, but they will brown if they got more light then food.

Got that from Thecultivatedreef. He sells that individually for $300 / polyp. He threw both of the polyps in as a freebie on the package I bought. Most of the polyp prices are to discourage individual polyp sales. Prices come way down the more polyps you buy.
