why dont you just go buy a cheapy RED one at petco or 7-11 or radioshack and figure out how to put a blue light in it!! Alot cheaper :D

Blue has roughly 1.5x as much energy as Red, which is why it took so long to come out with it. Einstein was the first to figure that one out.

Green lasers are out too and popular with astronomy because they project much farther/better. I guess the blue would be even better than the green.

It doesn't quite work like that.
Peak output of the sun is around 500nm which is the wavelength have evolved to percieve best, because it's most abundant. (ID people, we'll just say that we percieve 500ish best because... god said so, in any case, we do.) So even at the same power level, we can see green as much brighter, as in the case of a lecturer who has one. Alternately, we can see the scattering off many many fewer particles, which is why you see the green line in the sky, and need smoke to see a red laser.
Blue is about as visible as red, so it won't be any more fun.

It's mainly for astablishing geek dominance...you can spot the alpha geek by the blue laser pointer.
