Please give a warm welcome to my new 80 gal tank. :)
This was un upgrade from my 46 gal bowfront. I've had it for about 2 months and it is running great. All I did was transfer everything I had in my 46 to the 80. Still working on it, but I guess I will allways work on it.

My very first salwater tank was a 55 gal and it took a while for me to figure out how to run a saltwater tank. Now I have this monster and it already looks avarege size for me.....it's addictive, crazy addictive!

I've been looking at this guy for months now, but today I finally got a pic of it. I think it's an abalone cause of the way the shell looks. I think he must of been on some of the live rock when I bought it. Check it out.

The yellow blenny in post 16, is that a midas blenny? I'm interested in getting one, what does he do? Does he mess up the sand/dig holes and push sand around? (I'm trying to avoid that..)

That's a midas blenny and he does not bother any of my corals. He sits in the cup coral every now and then. No sand digging, no rock moving. He finds holes on the rocks and he slides himself in the hole and all that sticks out is his head. He is one of my favorite fish in the tank....:D

Beautiful tank. Midas Blennys have a cool personality, too bad mine decide to jump out the tank and committed suicide. Do you have a hood on that tank?

Your midas has really nice color, was he sorta pale when you bought him? I've been looking around and most of them are pretty pale compared to the blennies I see in tanks.

I don't have a hood, just the lights on top of the tank. I've had him for over a year and he has never jumped out.

My midas blennie jumped also. He was always darting across the top of the water. Then one day I found him on the floor about 10 feet from the tank. Now I've got an orange spot blennie & he seems to like the sand bed.

It looks like your flame angel in nipping on your leather. Does your flame angel bother any other corals?

I got him at OG and he was not too pale. His color are brighter now. Most midas I see around are sort of a light blue, light gray color. The colors on mine are really vibrant. I was at OG yesterday and I saw one that looked just like mine when I got him.

I think they go for $30. Not sure. Give Ron a call. I was there yesterday and they still had the Midas.

For all of us who want to upgrade. Tell us how you did that transfer. Did you have to use the old tank water? Or did you just start fresh cycling the new tank first.

Idealy on a transfer, you want to use as much of the old tank water as possible, minus the ditrus of course.

I used about 30 gal from my old tank and made 50 gal to fill the tank. I moved all the live rock and I used the live sand in the sump. Then I moved all the fishes and corals and to this day everything is doing very well. I will take a pic tomorrow and post it. All the corals are doing great. I only had 1 lost and that was a colt coral that for some reason started to "melt". Don't know what happened to it, but I got rid of it fast before it destroyed the tank.

You guys had any luck with those fang blennies? I've tried a handful of different kinds / different times, but the buggers ALWAYS starve themselves to death - never eat reliably. Is there some sort of trick to it?

Fang blennies? Do you mean the mandarin dragonet? I've been very lucky with this one cause he eats frozen shrimps. He is really fat and healthy.

I never had a problem with my Midas Blenny. He eats just about anything I throw in the tank.
