Got my cube all setup. Here's some pics. Needs more colors in there but it's a start.

reminds me of my 30 oceanic, eventhough this is twice as big. Nice tank btw.

thnx. the 5 turbo snails mow the algae on rocks. a week ago, the rocks had some gha patches. the snails cleaned them up quick. working on getting more corals with color. budget is a concern so it may take some time. thnx for the compliments.

Where'd you pick up the tank? I'm looking for a 50-60g cube myself...

RON a OG has one last time I was there. I think is 150 for the tank.

Looks great Fernan, what kinda skimmer are you running?

05-17-2006, 09:53 AM
thnx wanaleime. right now, skimmerless. i did have a coralife superskimmer on there running HOT, but the thing overflowed on me the other day and dupmed about 3 gallons of saltwater on my carpet. so i had to yank it. planning on installing a external overflow box so i can get a sump and i'll put the skimmer there.

If you get an overflow box, make sure to get lifereef, most of the overflow boxes out there are crap. Lifereef Overflow Boxes are 100% guaranteed to restart if there was a power failure. Also, I see that your doing bare bottom. Make sure that you have some spaces underneath those rocks for detrius to be easy siphoned. This will also give you more flow but it seems like your mainly focusing on softies which really doesn't like too much flow. Anyways, get your rocks elevated a little bit so that you don't have any dead spot where detrius can accumulate and start giving you nitrate, amonia and phospate problems. Nice aquascaping btw.

Fernan looks good bro. I like the yellow polyps you got. Have you started dosing yet? I'll put up pics soon of the new home your fish are living in. hehe

thnx for the tips nick. i'm thinking of putting 2 mj1200 at the back bottom of the tank so all detritus get blown to the front for easy siphoning.

Here's some updated pics. I'm trying to figure out this camera. Lights are actinics only.

Very nice setup and clean bro. The actinic looks great. Where do you get the frogspawns? I am looking for one too.

Thanks Johnny_Badboy. The green stuff in the middle is Green Star Polyps. I don't have a Frogspawn in the tank........yet.

Very nice tank. At first I thought the zoos in front were sun corals. How did you post so many pics in one thread? I could only post 5 at a time!

Cubes work really well if angle the current slightly off center of both corners. If you do it right and with timers you can get fantastic alternating toilet bowel action in both directions. Also, consider elevating some of the base rocks on PVC and/or eggcrate. Cubes have a tendency to get a lot of detritius in the center (even with a bare bottom). After a couple of months the coraline covers up the pvc. Just a suggestion... Good luck.

I noticed two types of clowns in your tank. While they are beautiful to look at, the tomato clown is going to put on size quickly and become a bully, likely killing the oscellaris... at the very least she will terrorize them until they won't come out anymore and then die. It may take a month, or a few days, but clowns do not mix as a general rule. :(

thnx for a heads up. they have been together now for about 7 months. so far there hasn't been a problem. if i see things start getting crazy, rest assured that i will move a pair to another tank.

How's that bre bottom working out for you? Looks great.

barebottom works great for me. less maintenance than when i had sand. when i had sand, because of my flow, i had to blow the rocks with a powerhead once a week to keep it clean. then i had cyano outbreak on sand and rocks. since going bb, i've had no algae/cyano problems. nitrates stay below 10 also. i just syphon out detritus from the bottom of the tank when i do a water change. i can already see spot of coraline at the bottom of the tank so it souldn't take long for it to cover the whole bottom part. plus i like the look of clean tank. :-)

Any updates?

no updates yet. basically just leaving the tank alone to mature. i did get a couple of enchino corals from a member here and added an anemone for the clowns to host. no luck yet as far as that. here's a couple of pics.

Fernan,

That's one of the best looking BB cubes I have seen. You have inspired me to do my new tank BB. One question. What is the black material on the bottom? Is it just painted? I was thinking of using a flat black epoxy paint on the bottom of mine.

Thnx Jharr. btw, the pink zoos and clove polyps i got from you are doing very well. the back and bottom of the tank i painted black. just regular spray paint. i did 4 thin coats and it came out pretty good. post pics of your progress and goodluck with the new tank.

I remembered I took some pics of my tank a couple of days ago. I'm bored so I thought it's time for new pics. Nothing has changed really, except for the addition of a carpet anemone (haddonni-sp?) and replacing my 10K halide to 20K, so I took out the actinics. Didn't think I needed them anymore. MH on from 12:00pm to 11:00pm. Lemme know what you think.

thnx danny and drippn. i was hoping at least one pair of clowns would host in it, but it's been in there a month and still no host. a pair of false percs and tomato clowns and still no host. guess i just gotta be patient....
