Stand is looking good.
What do you use as a fuge stand? If that's a bucket, I would change it to avoid desaster.
Are you going to skin the tank with plywood? If so make sure the doors are big enough to remove your equipment. Looks like the main sump might only fit through the back.

The stand looks very sturdy! nice job....I agree with swiss though, I would also consider changing the stand for the FUGE...if your on a buget, bricks are $1.40 at HD...not sure if thats a sale price...
Plumbing looks a bit high, is there a reason for this? or is it just prefrence? doesn't really matter as long as it doesnt leak:eek: I just finished the plumbing on my tank(my first plumbing job) and I had two small leaks, I found out if I would have applied more HOT GLUE if would have prevented this. Speaking if HOT GLUE, if this is your first time, buy elbows in bulk. trust me its CHEAPER and use CHIRSTY's Hot glue instead of the 2 part stuff...its EZer to use.

Thanks guys..
I have the stand for the fuge that i build i just forgot to put it when i took the picture. :D I will use Oak Plywood I got it at Lowe's to skin the stand i will work on that today.
Thanks for the plumbing advice WanaLeime, I will look on that CHIRSTY's Hot glue.

Joseph Whats up!!
I got this tank at AW, I look around for the prices and they still cheaper compare to any LFS, its black back with built in overflow where my durso and return can fit inside.

I would say this was my biggest project i've ever done for this hobby. This is my first time building a stand and canopy so it took me a while before i start this project and i thought it will be difficult but its not, If i can do it you can do it as well :D but i am willing to help and share my little knowlege on wood working skills for you guys, thats why SDREEFS is here...:)

Sure just let me know. There is a place here called Coral Fish Hawaii in Aiea that sells fish wholesale. They've got clowns for like $5.00.. Tangs for less than $10.00. They don't sell corals or live rock because it is illegal here but I know before I leave I'm going to get some fish for my new tank. I just need to find one. I need to check AW when I come home. I want either a 125-180

Ron: Suggestion:
- From the fuge, extend the gravity drain all the way to the left of the sump. The way you have it diagrammed, you'll get microbubbles in your tank.
Nice stand/canopy!!!

OHH.. I forgot to mention that i switch to POPLAR wood insted of OAk ply becouse it is much easier you just need to sand it to make it rounded corner, but you can still make the OAK ply corner nicely you just need to get a quarter round molding.

NO leak... I just did a leak test this morning and have no found any water leaking on connection.
I dont see any bubbles going to my return but i can always extend the pipe to the left side of the sump good thing i did not glue that yet.
Thanks Danny

That's what I did, but the sides of your doors are nicer, because they show the grain instead of ply. Good work.

I was looking at the location of your tank and noticed it is on carpet and hard flooring. It may not be level after a week because the tank may tilt into the side with the carpet. I had my 60 on carpet. My tank was not on exactly the center of the stand so after a month it started to lean more and more foward. I had to tear the tank down and move it to my living room.

Dennis I think we need to check out Jasper's fuge set up, I know he got his fuge gravity fed also but his set up doesnt have any bubbles coming out from the drain.

Joseph, Dont worry we are going to re-plumb your 50g when you get back if you want.

Jose how you doing? It takes me over a month to complete the whole set up, I only have a couple of hours during weekdays and weekends but thats ok i can really plan and have more time to research.

no ... you have to make sure that you have enough room for the water that will drain to the sump in case the power goes out.

doing a teriffic job there with the stand. Word of advice on using Christy's red hot clue, while it will work when used alone, it's always a good a idea to use the purple primer first, you will getter better adhesion, and far less likely to develop leaks now or later on. Keep it up guy, looks great.

Thanks Jason, yup i think its time to update the pic of my tank. Its been about six months now since this tank is running. I trasfered most of my softies and some LPS to my 40g tank and slowly convert it to sps. As far as the equiptments i dont have anything new except for the Tunze stream 6000 with multicontroler and hopefully a Ca. reactor this month.

okay - what about an underneath shot that's real clean? i mean - hell, i wish i would've brought my camera to take a couple of shots. i'm going to replumb my new 47 tall after seeing yours.

also, what about things that worked or didn't work out in your DIY set-up. i mean, are those the best hinges or is the canopy flip out for the lights as good or better than you'd hoped for? what about the gravity fuge?

or tips? suggestions for others?

i've a new 47 tall, have loaded it with the creme de la creme of my 92 (Yolo's new tank) & have a 25 tall underneath that i split with a fuge on one side & skimmer on the other - it's an ASM G2 (which is not skimming as much as it was in the 92 for some reason), right now i have 2 T8's but have a 400w hqi de that i want to use on it but need to build a canopy to hold the lights ... also have a calcium reactor (Precision Marine) that i need to hook up as well as a chiller (1/4hp Polar Bear, i think) ...

anyway - - i guess i'm saying - - i'm going to STEAL all your ideas but want to know if i should do something a little different. ;)

Nice tank. Currently I have a 125 FOWLR. One day I will convert it to a full reef. Hopefully mine can come out half as good as yours. Might have to copy your sump and fuge setup. Beautiful tank onad! Can I ask you about your bartlett anthias. How is their color? My males are very pale, and I'm theorizing it's due to the presence of my male lyretail. Just wanted some input from someone with only the one species (bartlett) in their tank. Thanks.

onad75
02-06-2007, 12:40 AM
My male Barlette has more lavender colored body and has a long fin on his back.
I have been trying to shot some pics. but they are just to fast for me.
How many Barlettes and Lyretail you have on your tank? I wonder if i can still add another kind of anthias on my tank..

SDguy
02-06-2007, 05:35 AM
I started with 3 female lyretails and three non-descript bartletts. Two bartletts soon clearly showed to be male (not uncommon for mutiple males to develop in one tank, from my research). They were both looking great, starting to grow tail streamers even...Here you can see them, the female is top right:
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p5/SDreefguy/Anthiasavatar.jpg

Then one of the lyretails changed to male. Since then, the male bartletts have gotten pale (they still have more lavender than the female, but it is sooo pale) There is no direct physical aggression. I think the mere presence of the male lyretail is enough. At this point my male bartletts have NO tail streamers at all, and very pale lavender, almost white :( See how the male is paler (on the left) than the female on the right:
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p5/SDreefguy/Anthias1-24-07.jpg

Anyways, I would not add lyretails, FWIW, to you tank. Maybe dispars (though they aren't terribly hardy).

Stunning FTS's, WOW! For my FYI, what water chemistry, lighting, temp, environmental changes do you think caused the echino to brown out? I've had a small green-eyed (mouthed) echino that I purchased as a frag for about one year. When I purchased it, it was a knockout greenish-blue, but it browned out in my old pc-lit 55. Since I placed it in the new 150 gallon mh/T5 lit sps/lps reef this past June, it has shed most of the excess zooxanthellae and is now a strange opaque color. It is healthy and still has the bright green mouths and rim, so I have hopes that it is morphing back to something nice...

EDIT: On second thought if you're interested in getting that colony i may just break my purchase strike and go halves with you. I too have been looking for green.

Oh yeah that's where 1/2 my acans come from. you should browse the site... and you can get 10% off if you want.. (tell you about it later) Just a warning if you are at all serious about any one colony... buy it the minute you see it. Those things fly off his site in seconds sometimes. I've lost 3 colonies just during my payment process.

sorta like these too http://www.zoanuts.com/coral.php?id=2389

Ron, beautiful photos. But I agree with the other posters that your tank looks even better in person! The green candy canes I got from you are thriving. Glad we are benefitting from your fast growth rate and your need to trim back certain corals!

Here's the latest news about my tank.. I sold all my sps to get some $ to fund my new hobby . Since I started cycling in Aug. I hardly took care of my tank and parameters went crazy..
I finally got back to taking care of my tank two weeks ago. I reaquascape my rock and pull out about 50lbs of live rock. I now have mix reef of LPS and softies. I added a few corals and fish that I acquired from members on the board.
FISH: Yellow tang from Christina, another yellow tang from Booker. I know 2 yellow tang in one tank !! I introduced both of them in my tank at the same time. Almost impossible to keep them together in one tank but I got a great result, looks like they're old lost bestfriend :what: or It might be because my atlantic blue tang is also yellow. I got Wheelers goby from gold fish world to pair my pistol shrimp.
Blastomussa Merleti, xenia, kenia from Jeff (mramc3)
LT plate coral from Carlo (carbon blue)
RBTA from Mo (gaviles)
Huge bubble from Will (AquaSD)
Hammer from Lance (porter1894)
Yellow figi leather from Warren (warjose)

Hello Ron,

I have not been visiting this forum for awhile and this is my first post for a long time. Anyway, I too have been neglecting my tank but I am still in the hobby. Keeping SPS is still tough and tougher if there is no TLC (tender loving care.)

I too have been enjoying other (expensive) hobbies.

Your tank was one of my favorites.

Here's some of the pictures I took last Friday. That was a terrible day for me (Firday the 13th) coz as I was trying to take a top down shot I accidentaly wet my camera. I don't know how to tell my wife, so I got her a nice gift for Valentines and when I told her about the camera she did not get mad. :bounce::angel:
