i set up this 10gal in my friends room because she wanted a reef. right now it's pretty much all frags, but thanks to chilly05willy's 96W powerquad i'm confident things will grow and begin to fill in. no corals were ever purchased for this tank. all frags were from my various tanks and pretty much all propped by me. this shows what can be done with aquaculturing. some of the piece originally came from fellow SD Reefs. a couple zoos in there are from treylane. mike N's xenia is growing in there. more than just a few things originally came from [G]h0s'][' and WanaLeime. more pics to come.

thanks. i aquascaped it leaving almost the entire sandbed exposed. i did something similar in my dad's tank. hopefully i'll be able to do something like that in my own tank the next time i reaquascape. setting up rocks with the branch on the bottom is something i got from WanaLeime. i looks cool, tons of caves keep the fish and inverts happy, and it good for water circulation in the tank. here's one of those lil happy fish.

Where can i get some of those super reds?....lol

MarLooney
07-12-2004, 11:55 AM
LOL... you only got like 3 colonies of super reds! if you look at the first pic of our overhauling thread WanaLeime has super reds that expand like freakin elephant ear mushrooms! :p

OK with the new lighting we hit an algae prob. got a skimmer from SDMike and that was solved... now we gotta do something about all the bubbles. anyone got an overflow box they don't need? just a box with teeth to stick the skimmer pump in. maybe i'll just make one.

here's a nice shot of some of her corals.

MarLooney
08-20-2004, 08:05 AM
yeah, i saw your zoos. very nice. i just added some new pieces to this lil 10gal and reaquascaped a little. that's what sucks about a nano. if you add like three med frags then you have to move like 6 things to get it in there. HAHA. i got plenty of pics but i'll post this one for now.

Pure Yellow Sun Coral... oh and the cool thing about this pic. no food. they just opened like that on their own; with the lights on.

Bickmade

nice! My sun is hanging in there, my girls is frickin huge. its alot of work IMO.

you laughing at her sun coral? :p that was her first piece. and when you think about it, you're better off with a piece that size in a 10gal.

here's more of those zoos for ya along with a Green Florida Ricordia (new), Purple w/ Teal Streaks Mushroom, & the Acanthastrea lordhowensis.

marlo, what's your experience with the pc's lighting the SPS? Do they do well? Is there certain kinds that do better than others? Can you keep SPS under powercompacts for an extended period of time and mantain good health? What do you think an adequete amount of "PC watts per gallon" would be to house SPS?

I'd be interested to hear and I'm sure others would as well.

You CAN keep SPS under PC. You want as much lighting as you can get for a tank. Also you can keep Dersa or Squamosa clams under PC's as well. I have SPS in my 10g and the color isn't fading but its not reallying how its suppose to look. They are growing good in my tank. My water quality is pretty good. I'm using 130W in the 10g. My girl has 96W in her 10g. Also you can keep CAPS under PC's as well. But please, do not keep anything else under PC's (SPS coral). They will brown out and look like sh!t.

Brahm, what the hell are you talking about? this tank has looked way better than mine for a while now! HAHAHA... booo. grrr... my own fault though. well, should be getting a new MH soon. i'll re aquascape too. do a full overhaul. also, set up a new prop tank. my tank will be lookin' good again in no time.

keeping SPS under PCs is only good if they're montis. and even then, i'd only suggest reg digi & cap. you may keep other SPS under PCs. they may even hold their color & grow, but their growth will be nothing compared to if they were under MH. also W/gal isn't the only indicator of how bright. the bulb temp, height from the water, shape of tank, and how the bulbs are set up (all together or spread out) matters a lot as well. her SPS are under a 96W 50/50 (daylight/super actinic) powerquad on a 10gal tank with SPS about 5" from the bulb. i'd like to upgrade to MH on her tank too but it'll be a while before we got the $ for that.
