pond aerator

Summer is starting to hit the pond temps so I am trying out a new aerator. I've had a pump shut-off when it gets hot in the past and trip the GFI or pump's thermal protector. I am hoping between any pump problems this added aerator will solve any oxygen problems when the pond really warms up. I will let you know how the system works and upload pics and video hopefully soon in case other pond keepers are worried as well.

That is a “Matala / Hakko” brand air pump.. Those things are fantastic. The weighted airline is a great idea as well.

The one suggestion I would make, is to use a rubber aeration disk instead of those porous diffusers. One of these:

Every type of Air stone/diffuser that is made up of a porous material will eventually become clogged with debris or hard water deposits. A diffuser desk like the one I linked above will never clog in that manner.

That is a cool diffuser option Chris. Ill check that out when I am back. Headed to the big island to see the volcano.

Tip of the moment: Put your air pump in a cool place so you put cool air in the pond. If its in a warm spot it can act as a forced air heater.

I wish they had given me more hose but I covered it from the sun when I installed. I was telling my friend I tend to turn off the water-fall during the heat of the day to avoid heating my pond over exactly what you said since the air pump works so well, than turn it on after the worst heat is passed. I was worried about one of the last fires as they dropped that retardant around us thinking it may suffocate my fish if it hits the pond.
