depend on what type of livestock you have SPS need a higher flow were as softies to require as much. I say go 2-1200's I have 3-1200 Mj and a 1200 AQ?? total of 4 PH plus return pump. All I keep is softies and LPS.

I had 4 MJ900's on a wavemaster and it was like a jacuzzi in there.

I would put 3 MJ900's. The 900's are more efficient than the 1200's.

MJ 900 flow rate 230 Power consumption 8.5watts
MJ 1200 flow rate 295 Power consumption 20watts

my return is a 900 gph with two 'twisty' pipes returning the water into the tank. with all the piping i doubt its pushing more than about 600 gph though.

personally i dont like the look of ph's in a tank. even the small ph is behind the rock and cant be seen.

I think a rule of thumb is you want your total volume of water in tank pumped 10x a hour, 20x for SPS and have seen people do up to 40x for SPS tanks although that was on bare bottoms *which rule

Nalbar, I personally would do more flow on a 80 gallon like yours, I have on my 45 3-1200 MJ and 1-200 AQ, plus a viaaqua return pump that does about 350 gph after head/bends.
*note Via Aqua pump cost $20 but it sounds like a blender-

***USE AQUA GLOBES IF YOU DO NOT LIKE SEEING POWER HEADS, THEY ARE AWESOME ALL YOU SEE IS A NOZZLE-FIXTURE IN YOUR TANK ABOUT THE SIZE OF A 50 CENT COIN. ALL THE ELECTRONICS ARE IN THE PLUG. VERY RELIABLE, QUIET, AND EXTREMELY SMALL. THEY COME IN FLOW RATES OF 150, 200-250? AND 350 GPH, 3 MODELS AW CARRIES THEM ALTHOUGH I WOULD RATHER DO BUISNESS WITH AN ONLINE RETAILER. Sorry for the caps just got excited-

i am not sure i have seen a seio in a tank but judging by the picture i would sooner have a cargo container in my tank. and the tunze's they have in the big tanks at tongs are simply terrible looking.

right now i have about 10X and after my fuge goes in i will have maybe 12X. but then i may divide off for the fuge and not get another pump. i think this is plenty. we will see if i am wrong. remember, i keep just rics, zoos, and shrooms.

prefering the zen method means less is more. and simple is perfection.
