sorry if this sounds stupid, but why do u have those 3 holes on the bottom? one big one in the middle and 2 smaller ones on the sides?
i understand the overflow and the 2 top holes for returns but im confused with the bottom ones

i believe thats is his closed loop. the big on in the middle is the drain and teh two on the sides are his returns.

Nice external overflow. Looks like an identical tank to mine, dimensions wise. Sweet tank Eric!

Yea the 2 inch is the intake to the pump, then OceansMotions, then to four outlets in the tank. Two on the back and two in the front corners.

bare with my stupidity, but i dont get it, the water going down to the sump is done by gravity with the overflows, and you have the pump down in the sump that sends it back up (that what the top 4 holes are for), so why the holes on the lower section of the tank? sorry but i dont get it.

im guessing its for beteter water movement? waves of somthing? different currents?

The rest of the holes are for a closed loop. It pulls water from the main tank and pushes it back into the tank. There is no need for pumps in the tank. I hope this helps. If not, stop by. I will be working on it all day tomarrow.

Awesone job! Please post more pics. I cannot see where the other two outlets of your OM are going. Is it a 4-way? Are the sides of your tank extended out to the back? Looks like it in the first picture. Due to your returns from the OM I assume your going BB? Also could you post a side view? I want to see how much the plumbing for the OM sticks out from the back. Sorry for all the questions. Really cool setup

I will post more pics tomarrow. It is a 4-way.I can not get a side pic beacuse the tank is in the wall. The pipes only stick out 4 inches. It is a big pain in the ass

I hope people are looking closely to how you plumbed your tank! With the want comes the drive. With the drive and patience comes excellence. Notice no drips. Allthough, It looks like it was dry fitted for the pic. Very nice job and design. I would like to know if you have it upand running and if you like your ocean motions? I am learning more on these closed loops and they seem to be the E-Ticket for flow. As some may know, I just got rid of a really sweet Tunzee setup. Prior to my next creation. A 240g. Any feedback would be nice. Anyone have any exp w/electronic ball valves? Once again, beautiful job!

Where do you get the ocean motions from? Is there a local distributor? Approx how much is that particular unit? Are they rated in gph?

Eric F

It is form www.OceansMotions.com. I got it on a GB on Reef Central for around 300. I asked to owner and he said the 4-way can do over 5000GPH. I have mine at around 3500GPH and no problems at all.

I got a OM SuperSquirt, I did a test run and it looks to run smooth can wait to get up and running. Have you ever considered the OM revolutions?

How do you plan on getting to/out the 4-way, should you need to service it? I don't see any unions or valves on there.

Very cool plumbing oragami. ;) I love the power center.

Is the OM unit reliable. Can it be serviced where it is located?

All looks very cool. Where did you start your research for this setup?

Eric F
05-10-2006, 02:07 PM
The OM can be serviced where its at if you put in ball vavles. I didn't, no room. I did my homework on ReefCentral.

Thats a freaking awesome job Eric!

I have my OM located above the water...and like eric, i didnt have room for unions either.....I did my research on OceansMotions.com

sweet tank, I love the external overflows. I wanted to do something like that on a 90 cube years ago but $$$ was the constraint. I love it- someday...
