Hello SDREEFS! I'm Tony and new to the salt water reef tanks. I had a 55 gal. fresh water for a long time and decided to cross over. So i went all in. Looked at the cost to do this and said I have to cut cost. So I DIY everything that I can and saved a good buck or two so far. I will post pics later but I built my own stand still have to complete the canopy though. found a great deal on a 120 gal tank. Purchased all equipment and lights when they were on sale. Over time of course. so far I have the water in the tank and its cycling. You tube taught me everything i know so far :-) I ran across a guy named Chico who told me about this site. Thanks Chico. So I just wanted to intro myself and say hello to everyone and I'll be posting a bunch of questions and would really appreciate any help as I dive into this hobby. Thanks again and hello

I have a question. I'm cycling my tank and my sand has brown spots in i. I heard that is normal during this process. But now I'm starting to see green spots like algae is starting to pop up. Is this normal during the cycling process. It's about week two of the process.

What's up, welcome to the site!
If I could give any advice it would be to have patience and don't rush things. Research, read, ask questions and see what works best for you. You will experience multiple ways of doing things in the hobby, find what works best with your set up. You may have ups and downs, fails and success. Don't give up. Find out what made.it fail or why it was a success and use that to grow in this hobby. You don't have to have deep pockets to be successful in this hobby......but it helps ;)

That's just normal algae. You don't need to cycle with lights on.
