So we convinced our boss to empty a 8'x4'x4' (approximately 950g) tank that is currently housing about 100 koi fish and converting it to a FOWLR system with primarily angels. Koi's have been removed and now the draining and cleaning will take place. then of course converting the sump, drain, and return to better suit a marine environment.

any suggestions what angles to get? We have a few in mind already, but wanted get other options and suggestions.

Once this is complete, anyone visiting OC can stop by Seaside Aquatics and enjoy.

I have 8 large angels in my tank. Here is what works for me
1) put the more timid angels in first (ie majestic and regal angel) in order to let them get settled
2) when adding new angels to the tank, I try to add more than 1 at a time to help disperse any aggression
2) feed heavily and a variety of foods. They go through an entire sheet of nori everyday. I do feed the frozen food containing sponge, but that is their least favorite food by far.
3) Have a good skimmer.
4) I added a large refugium and that seems to do a good job of absorbing nutrients as the chaeto grows like crazy.
5) Angels aren't like tangs, meaning they don't cruise around the tank continously, so I have lots of caves and tunnels in my rock work where they can just hang out

Hope this helps
Brian

well the tank was drained and cleaned over the weekend. now to the plumbing. Planning on removing the overflow and have (2) riser for a herbie with a rock structure to enclose the riser. For return planning on doing (2) returns on the bottom of the tank for undertow with enclosed rock structure, and probably run an up and over with (2) return for surface agitation..who know this might all change once we get more into the plumbing and scaping..

what you think of the the rock work? We took out the over flow and stacked the rocks onto the main drain (2") and 2 (1") emergency drain. Return will be coming from the bottom of the pillars.

The return is going to be under those rocks? Just know that a check valve will eventually fail.

Using the rule of thirds, I would try placing focal points at the intersections. Although with that much rock it would probably take a lot of glue/epoxy. It really depends on how much you want to put into the rockscape. At the end of the day beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I would redo it if it were my scape.

PS bulk reef supply on YouTube has a great video on aquascaping using the rule of thirds - good luck!

now that all of the fish are in from our shipment. this tank is pretty distracting as we are constantly looking at the tank. Most if not all the fish are eating Rod's, Fauna Marine Pellets, and Nori. The regal and Blue angel are having a hard time adjusting, but at least eating.
