OK, my friend is giving me a 10gal tank(free) comes with some cheap little pump and some other stuff. Now would you..

A) Make it a Quarantine Tank.
B) Make it a Mini Reef-Dont know if its possible.
C) Throw it back at him and ask for a bigger tank.

Thanks for the kind words Chap.....

One thing I have found about the nano is that you run out of room FAST (obviously). Not that big of a problem to maintain as long as you are on top of it constantly...since there is such little water volume to deal with.

Just make sure you put pretty hardy stuff in (just in case you have unexpected temp/salinity/flow changes.

Aw, hell,...who am I kidding.....it's my wife's tank....she would know more than I on how hard it is to maintain :) My babies are the 55 and 30.

You are right about one thing Chap,....I would trade all 3 for a 240 or 360 :)

I find with my nano's depeding on what you have in them they can be rather chore free, my 15 gallon is just a softy tank and requires nothing more then a top offs, and waterchanges which I do whenever I'm doing them on my 55.

10gal fuges leave little room for error. if anything goes wrong you run a higher risk of flooding... unless you do it above the tank as one person suggested... but that's just ugly IMO.

I have been running a 10g nano for around 6 months, and the toughest thing is making sure you top off atleast every day usually twice a day. I have a Xenia farm in there. I do weekly water changes around 10-15%. As far as mantis tank I had my mantis in a 10g aga and it hit the glass so hard I had to buy it a 5g acrylic because I worried too much. It even chips the acrylic walls so I am happy it isnt in glass.

Long story short, use it for a nano. Just keep up on your maintence.

I saw a thread over on RC about this guy's 865gal Starfire BOWfront tank... NOW you're talking water volume!

It makes me feel inadequate every time I go in the "large tanks" forum that I don't very often... Then I go to Jason's and that feeling of inadequacy gets reinforced!

nano

IMO those who say nano's require a lot of maintanance did not do them right.

mine requires top off (which i could auto if i wanted) and water changes. the water changes are FAR easier on my nano than on my 80.

I only have a 10. And if this is considered difficult or a lot of maintenance, than this hobby is easier than what I read. Granted, I have no fish, but all my corals grow like crazy. The occasional topoff and squirt of b-ionic and it's good to go.

When this becomes a chore, I'll get rid of everything and start golfing or playing guitar again.
