Depends on how devoted you are to this hobby. They are a little more work than a reef, but it's up to you.

Not really any more of a pain than any other reef tank I don't think. You do have to feed them everyday (frozen mysis is best) and use caution with what you put in the tank with them but other then that they aren't too difficult. As long as you get culture bred seahorses the feeding shouldn't even be an issue. What species are you looking at?

well i would be putting them in a 12 gallon so i would probably want the smallest ones like the dwarfs

do your research, the dwarfs are oneof the harder horses. look at seahorse.org

Dwarves would probably work just fine for your 12 gallon, however feeding can be kind of a pain as they eat only newly hatched live brine shrimp.

If you're really serious about sea-horses, I'd have to echo brncsfns5621 post and also suggest reading up on the subject at http://www.seahorse.org/ first.
