nano was my first tank about 4 years ago. i had a mini 7. REALLY EASY TO KEEP. Just follow the rules.
Have kept many nanos from .75 gallon to 10. Great to keep if you have to move etc. (rent or live upstairs). If you understand how things work within a nano then they are not hard and really not much maintenance.

i started a 10g nano in my office almost 3 months ago. i let the tank cycle 1 month with live rock before adding anything. the first and only thing i added was a baby midas blenny. it lived for a month until one monday i came into work and it was gone. he was fine on friday! his body never showed up. now, i have a small yellow watchman goby, panda goby, neon goby and a little cleaner shrimp with the usual hermits and snails. i'll be adding corals as soon as i get my 70w MH in the mail. it's super easy maintenance. it takes less than 3 minutes to change the water. i love it so far!

bens-reef: nanos = fun. That's all there is to it. Not much harder than a large tank either, actually easier in some cases.

I have a 24 Gal JBJ Nanocube and it's great.. I do weekly water changes and it's easy to maintain. Nanocubes are the way to go..

I have a few nanos easy to maintain quick water changes.. I put too much $$ into my nano though.. Now its time for something alittle bigger..

I havea 2.5g on the desk in front of me. They're great for showcasing a single, especially shy, species (like a yasha hase goby & shimp). Water change takes less than a minute.

I have a 16g nano at home and 10g in my office at work. 10g has no skimmer, running with aquafuge. Both are doing great !!! But I want more space so going to 50g in few weeks, I home its not much more work than nanos.

I have a 24 g nano-cube, and love it!
You can mod it into the next century, or pretty much run it as is if you are mechanically challenged (read filtration/equipment lop in my case).
