Is there a way (of advisable) to connect SCWD (3/4") to a 1" pump like Quiet One 4000.

Will reducing 1" to 3/4" cause leak problems ?

I dont think it will cause leaks but depending on the pump it may make the scwd fail sooner than expected.

Another option is to go with Gen-x 30 pump. I just do not know how good are gen-x pumps as compared to Quiet Ones.

if you're worried about reducing 1'' -> 3/4'' ...you don't necessarily have to go with a lower output pump. you can make a "mini-return" incorporated into your plumbing to help reduce flow going to the SCWD.

this is what i did: add a T connector to the return, along with a ball valve with a barbed adaptor for some flex tubing (if u ever wanted to do h2o changes, this thing is super convenient. just take the hose out, put it in a bucket, and twist the valve open; shut to close... etc). granted, i didn't do this with a SCWD, but the concept should still work. :)

hope that makes sense!

this is a "simplified" paint picture of the plumbing on my tank: :p

Thanks, Even if I go with 3/4" pump, I will add a T for water change. That should make water change easy and mess free.

don't restrict the flow.. as 1" tubing on all side of the sqwd with adapters.

I agree with Dakota. You should be using 1" plumbing on both sides of the scwd anyway. Resistance of a fluid through a pipe is proportional to radius^4.
Which quiet one are you using?

I thought they were going to come out with a 1" SCWD?

Yes they are, but when ??? Could be months away!!

I am now planning on going with "Quite One high head" which has 3/4" outlet. High is a bit more epensive ($30) bit it will make my life easier.

How can I do that when SCWD has 3/4" inlets/outlets?

haha I emailed them over a year ago and they said the new SCWD was going to be out in a month or two. Still not out yet, and the new one is supposedly going to be twice as much. Might as well spend the money on the far better built OceanMotions at that point.
