OK...can't remember where I saw it, but are there such things as screw-in PC bulbs? The type that fit the same socket as your standard light bulb? If so, anyone have a name/brand/website/price/exp/opnion on/for them?

I have seen 50/50 bulbs, 10watts and 20watts (I think) at AW. Home depot has 6,500K bulbs for about $10.

What is your application? I went to home depot and ordered a really nice flood one (as seen on melevs reef) for my sumpfugium.

I am using them on my FW planted tank. What the the color temp of the ones you ordered ? In my experience flood lamps are halogen, mostly 2,000-3,000K. Not very effective when you are trying to grow plants/algae. Range of 5,000-6,700K is desired.

I will check out melevs reef.

it is a spiral compact fluorescent bulb housed in a flood lamp body. it is very bright, uses 16w/comparable to 75w halogen, and is 5100k (looks white rather than yellow). you have to special order it from home depot.

picked up a 20W 50/50 and works just great. Using it as my primary lighting for a ~5g nano.

I alwasy thought the FW plants enjoyed a lower kelven (3200K) as the plant bulbs you buy (pinkish ones) run at that temperature... but yeah, those screw in ones work nicely for my fuge.. don't see why they wouldn't work on FW plants.

How much did you pay for this bulb ? In-stock 6,500K bulb at home depot is about $10, same thing 15w for 75w output. On my FW tank these bulbs make my plants pearl. So I know they are doing their job...that's what I use on my fuge.

There are a couple of lighting stores on Morena Blvd. that should have them. All they sell is light bulbs, not the place by toysrus.
