About four years ago my close friend Tim Nguyen, current President of the Asian Pacific American Coalition had a vision. His vision was to have an API representative in the areas of San Diego that had the largest population of Asian Americans. After years of hard work his vision became a reality and now the race is coming to an end.

In this election race, which is winding down to its last few weeks, there is a strong possibility that San Diego will elect its first Asian American representative in over 50 years. Tom Hom was the last San Diego elected officer in the 60's. This is important because the new district will have have fair representation in the community. The election is to be held on June 3rd 2014.

I have been pretty involved with this project and I am endorsing Carol Kim for City Counsel District 6. Carol is a great representation of the community and is the role model for Asian Americans. She is your average gal next door and is not corrupted by politics and special interests groups. A school teacher, HIV prevention counselor and a mother to two children. I encourage those who live in District 6 to vote for Carol Kim.

Unfortunately Tuesday voters turnout was a record low, the worse in California's history. Less then 20% of Americans made an effort to get their votes out, which is unfortunate because every vote counts. I worked with the GOTV ( Get Out To Vote ) campaign this past weekend and we were able to convince a small portion of San Diego Residents to voice their opinion but when I personally spoke to my friends who are not politically educated, only 1/10 said they voted. When I asked the other 90% why they didn't voted their response was " one vote doesn't count". It just show's how much people are under educated about voting.

On a brighter note, the candidate and friend Carol Kim who I personally endorsed made it to the preliminary race for November! The numbers of voters below will just shows you that every vote counts!

District 6

Chris Cate 47.39 % 7319 supporters
Carol Kim 31.05 % 5185 supporters

These numbers are ridiculous, please GOTV .. Get Out To Vote in November :)

BTW, CAROL KIM FOR DISTRICT 6 !!!!

We are 19 days away from the elections, to my District 6 peeps (Mira Mesa, Kearny Mesa, and Southern PQ) make sure you vote for someone genuinely cares about the community.. Vote for CAROL KIM !!!

Here is an PR that my buddy and world renown marketing guru Joon Han wrote the other day.

Hey SD District 6 pals - your city council vote in november's election is HUGE!
your council seat drastically shifts the power dynamics from either a balanced city hall to a very biased, huge, faceless-corporation tilt - so please make sure you go out and vote for someone!!!!
this one race directly affects our overall SD governance for the next 3.25 years!

Now if you were to ask me what i'd do if i lived in that district i would start off by saying that just in principle, i'm offended when a small group of very wealthy individuals decide that they're smarter than the rest of us and try to take advantage of a system that most of us don't pay attention to - like district 6. these folks decided that they'd easily win this district by having a very conservative dude move into the area just before the deadline and take advantage of a sizable campaign warchest just sitting there waiting for him to win the older, corporate Americans vote.
(the technical term for this from our history books is "carpet bagging" - so there's that...)
but wait, doesn't district 6 have one of the largest concentrations of asians in SD? these folks know that the asian community rarely makes a difference in any election in our country but just to hedge their bets, they made sure their dude was part-asian just to nab those voters that only look at that stuff.
Just a reminder, that whenever a city hall tilts heavily in favor of the huge, faceless-corporations- it rarely, if ever benefits people like you and me.

In fact, it usually results in adverse consequences for our kids, families and small businesses for at least a decade.

there's a reason these special interests/corporations are actually running TV ads for this council seat! a completely unheard of move for this level of politics but the benefits for them to win are so huge that they'll throw all the money they can to win a race that wasn't even supposed to be this close...
so if you were asking me, i'd strongly recommend Carol Kim...yeah, she's not a career politician but hey, she's NOT a career politician!
