Nice. Blenny still hiding or is it perching on some rock now?

it's swimming and perching on the rocks, but it quickly darts into its hiding place when someone gets close to the tank.

How do you setup a micro algae tank? What type of lighting do you need?
I have 14g biocube project that I am trying to setup. Just finished the stand and I will be using 12w par38 20000k.
I will be transferring some of my Zoas/Paly from 50gcube into 14g.

well on this tank i went with a 10k LED light (more for plants than coral). I like the more natural look and didnt want too much blue. I'm not doing anything special just added a thicker sand bed than i usually do. I actually think i have too much rock in there so ill prob be removing some as the macros grow.
I just basically wanted to keep a saltwater tank but want it as low maintenance as possible so i decided on macros (with the exception of a couple palys already in there lol)
I have no other form of filtration other than rock, sand and flow and everything looks good so far.

Thanks for the info and low maintenance is exactly I wanted to do since I will be doing weekly water change. Not sure about my 20k since algae will grow better on the lower lumens.

Very nice tank!!.. You've inspired me to make one. How much water changing do you have to do with no filtration system? Where can i find macro algaelike the red grapes and others nice stuff. All the ones i saw online dont ship to CA.

leonel619
10-04-2013, 10:20 PM
thanks. Ive since upgraded to a 34g solana but still follow the same maint routine. on the 5g i would only change about a quarter of a gallon to half a gallon of water at least once a week. worked well for me and never had any issues. I don't use any kind of filtration on my solana either other than a water change once a week.

check this site out: http://www.live-plants.com/
this is where i ordered a lot of my macros. They are in florida. I think the ones that most wont ship to california are the caulerpa types.

Thanks! the 5g macro tank has been replaced by the solana but i do miss it.

So how many nems you got now?

i have 4 now. And counting lol.. 3 RBTAs and a green BTA... or it might be a LTA, not sure. Oh and a maxi mini nem if that counts lol

What lighting is on the solana?

its a 60w Stark LED fixture that i got from a friend here when i upgraded to the solana. It was supposed to be replaced soon after i got it but everything i throw in there seems to do well so ill keep using the light until i find exactly what i want.
